it’s hot

Hola Cottage Fix friends! How’s your summer going? It’s hot here, week after week of hot. This past weekend Honey and i hopped on our bikes and headed to the nearby trail for a morning hike, something that has become somewhat of a weekend ritual for us. As we pulled in to park our bikes along the fence, I could feel a warm breeze coming off the shore and was greeted by the scent of the drying river bank. It’s […]

cottage fix Friday flowers

Hola Cottage Fix crew! I’m blogging in today under glorious sun filled skies and bright crisp air. The traditional yo yo temperatures we’re accustomed to here near the coast of Virginia are in full swing. Our weather people must stay on their toes that’s for sure. I even heard a mention of flurries in the forecast for later tonight—it was almost 80 degrees this past Wedneday. Oh yes, the floppin hoppers and toboggan worn all in the same week, a […]

Cottage Fix beach days

Hola Cottage Fix friends! The beach was so lovely this past Sunday with cool clear water and a soft breeze. Even though these are the waters of the Chesapeake Bay, sometimes the dolphins make there way here to swim and play in the gentle waves. Unfortunately, the jellies glide on in too. The highlight of our day was feeding the seagulls Sun Chips, they get all feisty and funny. Pretty and  unusual red sails. This seagull was the boss! Grin! […]

Spring Break at Douthat State Park

Hola Cottage Fix friends! This past week was the kiddos’ Spring Break and hubby was lucky enough to get some time off from work too. We planned a few days at Douthat State Park in the Allegheny Mountains in Virginia. The drive up I-64 was glorious with the red bud and dogwood trees both in full bloom. It was in the upper 70’s and we stopped for a picnic of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and chips along the way. We […]

apple picking on Carter Mountain

Salutations! Last weekend we took the family on a day trip to pick fresh Fuji apples on Carter Mountain in Charlottesville, Virginia. Our teenage son has been hoping to go apple picking for the past couple of fall seasons and we kept putting it off because it’s a little over a two hour drive. We’re more of a one hour day trip kind of family, but we powered through. Grin. It was well worth the long trek! The drive was […]

sunny garden days — Thursday

I hope you have been enjoying this week of sunny garden days at cottage fix as much as I have. I really didn’t realize how much time I spend working in the garden until I started writing this blog. I have a good time though. My hubby does all the heavy lifting so it’s not so bad. Except for the weeding; we both tackle those bad boys all the time. Today I’m sharing the dogwood blossoms from our tree in […]

a vintage tool box centerpiece for Spring

Salutations!  Virginia has turned green — greener than green.  This is the time of year all the plants start growing and turn our town into a lush, green beauty.  The new ivy growth is vivid lime green lighting up our flower beds, and the birds are splashing around in the bath.  It’s looking like Spring out there for sure.  It’s been a hot week, but that’s okay.

the Virginia coast

This past week was the kids’ spring break so I decided to drag the family to the Virginia coast for a little rest and relaxation getaway. We headed to First Landing State Park and rented a cozy cabin nestled in the woods. Considering this destination is less than an hour from our home, I’m not sure why we hadn’t taken advantage of it before now. But on the drive home we promised to head back over the summer on a […]
