summer hydrangea bouquet and the red door

Hola! Summer’s in full swing and the hydrangeas this time of year are spectacular. There’s a garden down the street from us growing a couple of bushes with bright pink blooms that catch my eye every time I drive by. Ours are out in the back garden and bloom French blue. We also have a lace cap in purple/blue. Our bush that usually produces purple blooms hasn’t done much so far this year, fingers crossed. I created this bouquet with […]

Cottage Fix Friday flowers from the garden

Happy Friday Cottage Fix friends! Our garden is growing wild this year, or as I like to say; the green machine is kickin’! The hydrangea are especially thriving now that the shade tree we cut back is starting to fill in and provide a bit of canopy from the afternoon sun. We’ve also been getting bucket loads of rain resulting in an abundance of lush green. Unfortunately, the weeds also seem to be enjoying all this rain. But they’re not […]

silvery sage painted chest

Hola Cottage Fix Crew! Long time no see. It’s been a crazy end of summer around here and even though I’ve been working on a couple of DIY projects, i haven’t had an opportunity to share them with you. So I’m very excited to get back into the swing of things! And today it’s all silvery sage paint with some farmhouse inspired styling. I wanted to give this old vintage chest a freshen up, and I’ve also been trying to […]

garden hydrangeas

Salutations and happy summer! Our summer garden is in full swing and the hydrangeas are blooming a variety of colors this year. From deep purple to classic blue, they are one of my favorite flowers, especially to cut and bring inside. I picked a couple of new blooms in lime green to add to this bouquet too. One was on it’s way to turning purple and the other blue. So I did some investigating about hydrangea color… Can you manipulate […]

cottage fix Friday flowers

Hola Cottage Fix crew! I’m blogging in today under glorious sun filled skies and bright crisp air. The traditional yo yo temperatures we’re accustomed to here near the coast of Virginia are in full swing. Our weather people must stay on their toes that’s for sure. I even heard a mention of flurries in the forecast for later tonight—it was almost 80 degrees this past Wedneday. Oh yes, the floppin hoppers and toboggan worn all in the same week, a […]

hydrangeas and the flag

Salutations! We’re in the midst of a lounge-y four day holiday weekend with lots of cooking, gardening, vegging out on the sofa, and biking and hiking in the nearby trails. It’s been a mix of sunshine and storms which we’re really enjoying. An afternoon storm at the end of a hot humid day is always a treat for me, as long as I’m already at home that is. The storms roll in and pound us with rain and lightning, exiting […]

Purple hydrangeas from my parent’s garden

Salutations! My parents brought me these ginormous purple hydrangeas from their garden early last week. After posting a photo of them on Instagram I realized that purple is not a common hydrangea color. So I asked my padre about them. He explained that he sprinkles lime around the base of the plants yearly to keep the soil pH levels up and help create the deep purple hew. Both of my parents are blessed with green thumbs that they inherited from their […]

architectural salvage and fluffy white bedding

Salutations! I’m blogging in today to share with you what I’ve been getting together in our bedroom, something I’ve had up my sleeve for some time. Nothing says fresh to me like a cloud of fluffy white bedding floating atop crisp white sheets. This shenanigan of mine all started with a Simply Shabby Chic duvet cover and shams I found at Target for 75% off. What could I do? I really had no choice! That bad boy was in my […]
