evening light

Hello there Cottage Fix friends! It’s starting to feel a bit like summer here in Virginia and I’m diggin’ it. This past weekend we spent Saturday afternoon at the beach with friends, and Sunday Farmer Brown and I tackled the front garden. We’re on a mission this summer, let me tell ya! Every flower bed in our yard is overtaken with ivy and weeds (I blame all the rain, rain, rain). The ivy is climbing high up into the trees […]

Cottage Fix summer bathroom doused in whites

Hola Cottage Fix friends! The first few times I shared our bathroom remodel with you I was always so careful to crop out the throne whenever possible. This made it especially challenging to photograph. But I just decided it’s a bathroom and it’s got a pot, wouldn’t be much of a bathroom without one! I’m sure you all assumed we put one in there. Grin. So today I’m sharing images of the kiddos summertime bathroom, and yes, it has a […]

the autumn clematis is blooming here…

It’s my favorite time of year here on the east coast as late summer slides into early fall. If you were to ask me my favorite season, I would answer fall without a doubt. But it’s really the changing of summer into fall. When the air begins to cool, the humidity takes a backseat to crisp fresh air, and the windows go up throughout our cottage. The tiny white blooms of the autumn clematis are the first sign that fall […]

late summer styling in the dining room

Hola! This summer has flown by and the kiddos only have one tiny little week left before school starts back up. Poor dears! It was a fun summer though—lots of outings to the local beaches and walks on the nearby trail. I’m blogging in today from the dining room with some styling to reflect the  summer’s nearing end. Oh the agony, the horror! Say it ain’t so! The top of the china hutch has remained mostly empty for the entire […]

a road trip to South Nags Head, NC

We’re just back from our trip to South Nags Head where we were hard at work doing the beach – pool, beach – pool, beach – pool thing. It was a fun few days with family and friends making memories that we will cherish. These are a few shots from my iPhone while we were there. The waves were big and choppy…   The view of the sand and sea from our deck… A sandpiper fleeing from a crashing wave… […]

Hola Cottage Fix friends! We’re heading to the beaches of North Carolina tomorrow for some sand and surf, but mostly sand. It should be fun. We rented a big beach cottage right on the water and all of our family will be there. The East Coast Surf Competition is happening this week in Virginia Beach and it’s supposed to continue next week in the Outer Banks. So hopefully we’ll see lots of hang ten dudes and dudettes practicing. These are […]

day trip by the shore

We had such a lovely day on Wednesday at one of our local beaches; it’s just as dreamy as the beaches of the Atlantic in it’s own way. These are the waters of the Chesapeake Bay. While we were there the water was clear and cool, a little choppy,  and we saw a pod of dolphins swim by. We ate salads and baguette sandwiches, chatted about the summer, swam in the small waves, and soaked up the warm sun.  It […]

Cottage Fix rustic baskets and summer whites

Salutations! We’re in the midst of a serious heat wave here on the east coast; I’m certain you could fry an egg on the blacktop in the afternoons. The air is thick and alive with the sounds of cicadas. I’m ever so happy to get through with my morning walk and retire to the air conditioning for the remainder of these hot, muggy days. I’m having a good ole time rearranging, shuffling mirrors around, and catching up on the massive […]
