cottage fix Christmas tree

Well guys, the Cottage Fix Christmas tree has landed. Honey and I picked her out ourselves and she’s quite the looker. I don’t know why, but it seems even when I deck our place out with a couple of little trees here and there throughout this old cottage, it doesn’t feel like Christmas to me until there’s a full size tree standing proud in our living room. The kiddos were double booked this past weekend so Honey and I decided […]

twinkle, sparkle, and vintage baubles xoxo

Happy Holidays! The Christmas cheer is well under way here at Cottage Fix with sparkly lights and vintage baubles in all of our nooks and crannies. It’s always been about the glitze and lights for me, the world lit up with magic and hope. The twinkle and sparkle of the lights seem to fill town after town with joy and the Christmas spirit. When our kiddos were just wee little guys we had a tradition of driving them around late […]

buttermilk pie

Have you heard of buttermilk pie? I never had until only recently, and let me tell you, it’s a secret that needs to be shared! It’s a delicate custard pie that’s both sweet and tangy, and whips up in a jiff. Imagine if a buttermilk pancake was a pie, this would be it. Or if a buttermilk pound cake and a custard pie had a baby, this would be there delicious little baby buttermilk pie.   Ingredients: 1/2 cup butter melted […]

hydrangeas and the flag

Salutations! We’re in the midst of a lounge-y four day holiday weekend with lots of cooking, gardening, vegging out on the sofa, and biking and hiking in the nearby trails. It’s been a mix of sunshine and storms which we’re really enjoying. An afternoon storm at the end of a hot humid day is always a treat for me, as long as I’m already at home that is. The storms roll in and pound us with rain and lightning, exiting […]

Uncle Allen’s chocolate pie – heirloom recipes

Salutations! With Valentine’s Day coming this weekend, I thought I’d share one of my all time favorite chocolate recipes. This is an heirloom recipe from my Uncle Allen and whenever I think of him this rich, luscious chocolate pie comes to mind. I have fond memories of many of my grandparents and relatives that involve their signature recipes. They probably didn’t know they had a signature recipe, but to me they did. My grandma Lillian made me a fresh orange coconut cake […]

a stary bright New Year!

Hidy Ho Cottage Fix friends! We are enjoying some “sink on into it” time off around here. My honey took off a full two weeks for the holidays so he has been home the entire time the kiddos are home for Winter Break. We are enjoying some serious do-nothing kind of days. We shopped at the fancy supermarket in town, cooked seafood, enjoyed late loungy suppers and even later mornings. We went to the gym, hung out with friends and […]

pink roses at Christmas

Salutations Cottage Fix friends! How’s the decorating, shopping, baking, and Christmas shenanigans going at your place. We’re moving right along here. Give me just one more afternoon in the shops and my list will be completely checked off. I’d also like to bake a few holiday treats if this cold I’m fighting ever clears. Why in the world I get a cold at Christmastime each and every year is beyond me. I’m trying to stay peachy bright in spite though. My […]

Christmastime at cottage fix

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays Cottage Fix friends! I kept our little cottage simple and sweet this year, and a tad on the traditional side too. I used fresh greenery, white twinkle lights, and shots of red to create a traditional cottage style Christmas. The mantle is done up with fresh pine garland, pine cones, and white twinkle lights. To add a bit of red, I tied red velvet around plain white candles. I used the extra tree trunk as candle […]
