a vintage table and chairs in the garden

Well,  it seems I’m still out here having fun in the garden.  It’s hard to stay inside when the sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, and the grass has turned green.  I’m out here just peter puttering around … a little weeding, a little fetch with Paisley, and a little table in the garden.  Miss Paisley and I seem to be stuck out here.  I plan to enjoy it while I can,  hot and sticky is waiting for us […]

shabby chic window treatments in the kitchen

Life has been moving in full speed this week with jam packed days of soccer games, doctor appointments, and musical performances. I don’t mind it though. I stumbled upon a couple of hours this morning and decided to have coffee and a snuggle with sweet Paisley on the sofa — ahh … what a nice start to what is shaping up to be one crazy day of running around town.

fall centerpiece

camellia and fall fruit

Happy Fall!!  So this is one of my new favorite decorating tips.  While you’re at the market, fill your basket with some of your families favorite produce, add some flowers or herbs or whatever you have from the garden, and call it a centerpiece.  I love how simple and pretty it looks.  My kiddo’s fall fruits of choice are pomegranate, pears, and apples, but the possibilities are endless!  A few posts back I did a similar centerpiece with clementines, I […]

cottage living room painted ivory

cottage living room painted ivory

That’s right… the living room is finally completely painted!  Whoo Hooo!!  This one was a doozy.  As much as I love our tall ceilings, about halfway through this paint job I found myself telling those ceilings where they could go!  You get the gist.  Yes, this is one of those rare occasions I am actually glad I don’t have a large great room with cathedral ceilings.  Can anyone say “painter?”  So now I can’t turn my head all the way […]

dining room & weathered shutters

After a crazy day, make that a crazy week, sometimes I just like to goof off, shuffle things around, and then shuffle things around again. This tends to cause a bit of confusion with the hubby and chillies and I get a lot of “Moommm, where are the spoons?” I know it’s wrong but this always makes me laugh! Don’t tell the kids. This is the dining room where a lovely set of shutters have decided to live for a […]

a painted garden bench

a painted garden bench

A little white paint can do wonders for old shabby furniture and garden benches. This is probably a bit too white for my taste, but after a couple of seasons outdoors this bench will begin to weather and turn just how I like it… chippy and distressed. At least I hope so, that’s the plan anyway. I picked this bench up at a yard sale a couple years back and decided to try it on our patio. Our other outdoor […]

daybed

I have been working on our guest room for a few months now. The walls are painted a soft shade of cream, thanks to some help from my mom, and all of the main furniture pieces are in place. There are really only two, a daybed and a media cabinet – both vintage pieces. Since we rarely have company and the kids have overtaken this room, I thought this petite daybed would work nicely. The original three seat cushions (that […]

garden supper

One of my very favorite things about summer vacation is the long leisurely suppers by the pool or on a picnic table in the woods, wherever we happen to go that year. Nothing fancy, we usually order takeout or cookout on the grill. But along with some melon or strawberries and a bottle of wine, you have something special and reminiscent of those sweet summer days. Well its not quite summer, and we have no travel plans this weekend so […]
