apple picking on Carter Mountain

Salutations! Last weekend we took the family on a day trip to pick fresh Fuji apples on Carter Mountain in Charlottesville, Virginia. Our teenage son has been hoping to go apple picking for the past couple of fall seasons and we kept putting it off because it’s a little over a two hour drive. We’re more of a one hour day trip kind of family, but we powered through. Grin. It was well worth the long trek! The drive was […]

rainy day projects and Paisley’s fall crochet

What a long wet rainy day. Doesn’t the first Monday after the time change seem to go on forever! I always have a hard time adjusting to the time change, I’m like a toddler I guess. My internal clock just keeps on ticking — I’m hungry for lunch at ten AM and ready for lights out by 8 at night. Paisley is enjoying her new fall crochet sweater on this long soaker of a Monday. I couldn’t resist sharing it with […]

Cottage Fix fall planting and pumpkins

Hola Cottage Fix friends! We have sun, warm bright glorious sun. Yesterday the clouds finally decided to break apart and sunshine filled my day. To celebrate I took Miss Paisley on a field trip to our local garden center for plants and pumpkins. She was a big hit, somewhat of a crazy dog though after four days of stormy weather! I’m sure she gets that from me. I picked out a couple of fairy tale pumpkins and also a large […]

shabby chic fall centerpiece

Good evening fine people of blogland! There’s nothing like two weeks of rain followed by a never ending coastal storm to put one in a very fine mood. I must admit I woke up this morning feeling oh so sorry for myself and blaming it on the weather man entirely. Then I flipped on the news only to see our two neighboring southern states got hit hard. Well now I just feel awful, the rain is nothing in comparison to […]

subtle autumn decorating at Cottage Fix

Salutations! Well according to my calender it’s officially fall, but can you believe nobody told the weather guy here on the East Coast. It misty rained, rained, and almost rained the entire weekend, and they’re forecasting rain all this week too. It’s thick and muggy out there, humid enough to need AC. And you all know how I feel about that. What happened to the sun filled crispy crunchy autumn I was dreaming of? I hate to moan and groan […]

Friday flowers in the garden

Well, we made it – Happy Friday friends! I feel a bit on the lucky side to still have a little something blooming in the back garden. I’d like to add more late summer/early fall bloomers out here, but I’m not so sure what they would be. The perennial garden is always changing; budding, blooming, then dieing back until its time comes again. It’s so exciting to see something new popping up season to season. xoxo Sally

a romantic autumn vignette with recycled goods

To my dismay the buffet in our dining room is often piled up way too high with clutter. You know, it’s the landing spot. The place where the keys, lunchboxes, and mail all love to congregate and join us for supper—so I decided to foof it. Maybe a bit of fluffing and puffing is just what this little spot needs. One thing you may not know about me is that I’m what they call frugal. Personally, I like to think […]

Cottage Fix fall favorites

Good morning Cottage Fix crew! This is my time of year here on the east coast of Virginia. Oh yes, this is what I was waiting for! The air turned crisp and cool over the last couple of days and up went the windows. The fresh air feels so good breezing in. Here are a few of my Cottage Fix fall favorites from last year’s season. I’m ready for pumpkin spiced everything, including this sour cream pumpkin bread with chocolate chips. […]
