shabby inspiration

Rachel Ashwell is one of my all time favorite designers. She has influenced the world of decorating with her imperfect romantic style and played such a big part in my love of home decorating and design. From her fluffy, decadent bedding to her chippy paint furniture, her style makes my heart go pitter patter. So it’s no surprise that when I’m thinking of picking a new wall color or changing something out in my home I often look to her […]

French farmhouse inspired bouquet

Bonjour Cottage Fix friends! Well last week was an entire week of rain. Oh yes, the rain, rain, rain came down, down, down. The hydrangeas really seemed to enjoy it. Me on the other hand, well I was happy to see the sun finally come back out. I’m not good at staying indoors so there were numerous walks with puddles underfoot and umbrellas overhead. Paisley basically stayed soakin’ wet for a whole week straight, poor little puppy. We went to […]

garden in the mist

Well guys, that on and off rain I mentioned has settled here on the coast and we’re getting all day mist with heavier rain falling at times. It’s really lovely and serene. I enjoy rain in the warmer months, it’s so romantic. The gardens turn lush green, and if it’s hot enough, the steam wafts from the streets. This is what it must be like living in Seattle, I’m craving nothing but café mocha and chai. Paisley and I walked […]

Cottage Fix honeysuckle and a summery quilt

Good morning Cottage Fix friends! The heat and humidity have landed here on the east coast which is no surprise since we’re already into June. It’s in the mid-eighties today with moderate humidity and it really doesn’t feel that bad. I quite like these kinds of days, especially when the AC is cranked up if you know what I mean. With the humidity often come the rains, not all day, just here and there. So the garden is looking a […]

flowers from the garden spring mantel

Well, we did it… a super-packed, fun-filled weekend with no projects or yard work in sight! I’m sure we’ll be paying for it next weekend, the jungle is closing in on us. It’s a little scary. Although I’m not convinced that an “all play” and “no work” weekend is entirely good for us. By Monday we were all pretty much grumpy and tired. There must be a healthy balance between the two and that’s more of what what we’ll be […]

purple irises and open windows

Hola fine friends! Happy Friday! I’m blogging in today under blue skies here on the east coast with the cool breezes blowing in. The air is fresh and the cottage windows are all popped open. And I’m thinkin’ it’s a good day to pick a bunch of purple irises from the back garden to liven things up in here. The stems around the edges of the irises tend to fall over as they bloom, so what’s a girl to do? […]

6 tips for decorating with garden flowers

When it comes to decorating with fresh flowers, I can find a way to use just about anything that can be plucked from the garden. A little of this and a little of that whimsically arranged into a vase or basket or formed into a casual wreath is an easy way to transform a plain room into something bright and fresh. I love to place a tiny bouquet in our guest bath, on the windowsill or sink, to make our […]

vintage mirrors and bright pink peonies

Salutations! I’ve been at it again, shuffling things around, up to shenanigans, or what Honey likes to call “up to no good!” He’ll be happy to know that this collection of vintage mirrors was created with the ones I had already acquired on another day when I was knee deep in some other shenanigans. I just brought them all together to hang out and get to know one another here on the big blank wall in our living room—the big […]
