Good morning Cottage Fix friends! I’m blogging in today under beautiful blue skies and the promise of mild sunny days for the remainder of this week. Yes, Spring is in the air and it’s time to get things going—or bust.
I had a bit of a cheat in the hallway here with this light and airy white paint. I hired my dear professional painting friend to paint it for me, you know with the super high ceilings in the stairwell and all. It was looking quite ominous to me, and really like something I’d never get around to tackling myself. No, I couldn’t seem to muster up the courage for the very tall ladder teetering on the edge of the skinny wooden stair. No thank you. That’s when you call in the professionals. Call me a wimp, I’m afraid I’ve heard worse. Grin.
The white paint is making a huge difference in the stairwell. All though I’m already getting anxious to start gussying this space up to soften all the white. I’m trying to be patient and take my time. I’m thinking of etched old mirrors and floaty soft drapes, maybe colored vintage glass on the window sill. I think I’ll start with a simple vintage mirror though, in case I change my mind on the drapes.
And I’m not so sure about the gold switch plate either. I don’t think I like that. This old place is decked out in a rainbow of switch plate cover colors, I’d like to narrow it down to just one. In the kitchen they’re sort of a dark pewter shade. That might be the way to go everywhere.I’m so happy to be looking out into the back garden and see these sweet white blooms looking back at me. The white camellias are putting on a gorgeous show this year and the royal star magnolia just recently joined the stage.
Spring is close and these guys know it. Buzz.
The piano is the first thing you see when you walk through our front door. This back wall is the one that always gives me trouble. I can’t seem to get it right. I’m working on a picture collection now. But like all of my projects, it’s slow going. That’s mostly because I’m not so sure it’s working out. Ugg!I’m also shuffling the throw pillows around, and around and around and around. Grin. I change up one little thing and it’s like a whirlwind of shuffling and buffling. And then I can’t even remember what I was doing in the first place! I did manage to get the sun porch looking fresh with denim, stripes, whites, and a picnic basket. If I could get our entire little cottage looking more like this, I’d be a happy happy lady!See you soon!
