working in the late summer garden and pavers

Hola Cottage Fix friends! It’s starting to cool down here near the coast now that we’re heading into September, and I hear we’re in for a real treat come Friday. I’m anxiously awaiting the weekend forecast which is promised to be in the upper 70’s with low humidity. I can hardly wait to open up the house and let the fresh air in. Without a doubt four of my favorite words to hear are — “Let’s open the windows!” and […]

Purple hydrangeas from my parent’s garden

Salutations! My parents brought me these ginormous purple hydrangeas from their garden early last week. After posting a photo of them on Instagram I realized that purple is not a common hydrangea color. So I asked my padre about them. He explained that he sprinkles lime around the base of the plants yearly to keep the soil pH levels up and help create the deep purple hew. Both of my parents are blessed with green thumbs that they inherited from their […]

cottage fix Friday Flowers from the garden

Happy Friday Cottage Fix friends! Well, it’s been another one of those weeks with never-ending clouds and rain here on the ol’ coast of VA. And rain is in our forecast for both days this upcoming weekend. Ah man, the weird thing is I’m actually getting used to it. I keep thinking this is what it must be like to live in Seattle, the rain just keeps on coming and the coffee just keeps on brewing. Once I’m settled into a […]

Friday flowers… roses from the garden

Yay Cottage Fix friends… it’s Friday! With all this rain the garden is lush green and full of blooms including these sweet pink roses. I popped a sprig into one of my “not so vintage” bottles. On the sun porch, it’s mostly whites with a touch of blue and a pop of pink. My quirky herb and vegetable patch is just on the other side of the windows. That’s where I keep an eye on things. Wink. The spinach, lettuce, […]

Cottage Fix pots of lavender and Superbena

Hola Cottage Fix friends? I’m so excited to be blogging in under sunshine filled skies and cool crisp air. This past weekend was so lovely here, and the ever fleeting sun finally made a grand appearance. It’s been a while, so Farmer Brown and I worked for a bit out in the back garden. I also potted a couple of lavender plants and a Superbena. Superbena is new to me, it’s a verbena hybrid and this shade is called Royal […]

peonies in the storm

Let me tell you… last night I lie awake to the sound of the rumbling thunder echoing through our bedroom. Rain pounded the roof and lightning lit the night sky with each explosive thunder boom. If it hadn’t been for Miss Paisley, there’s a good chance I might have slept right through this grandiose storm. But she likes to keep us informed of these sorts of things. Wink. As I lay there, all I could thing about was my new […]

Cottage Fix fall planting and pumpkins

Hola Cottage Fix friends! We have sun, warm bright glorious sun. Yesterday the clouds finally decided to break apart and sunshine filled my day. To celebrate I took Miss Paisley on a field trip to our local garden center for plants and pumpkins. She was a big hit, somewhat of a crazy dog though after four days of stormy weather! I’m sure she gets that from me. I picked out a couple of fairy tale pumpkins and also a large […]

Friday flowers in the garden

Well, we made it – Happy Friday friends! I feel a bit on the lucky side to still have a little something blooming in the back garden. I’d like to add more late summer/early fall bloomers out here, but I’m not so sure what they would be. The perennial garden is always changing; budding, blooming, then dieing back until its time comes again. It’s so exciting to see something new popping up season to season. xoxo Sally
