the fate of a blue and white tureen

A couple of weeks ago I heard a crash come from our living room, which isn’t necessarily an unfamiliar sound in our house.  Things break and I sweep them up and move on without making to big of a fuss.  Well, I turned the corner into the living room to ask “What broke?” and saw the lid to my treasured blue and white tureen in pieces. It looked ever so sad scattered about the hardwood floor. I won’t go pointing […]

adding texture with gathered pillow shams

We’ve been really busy lately with kids and our puppy and life and such.  And of course I’ve got a million and one projects up my sleeve, some of which I’ve started and some are on the back burner. I did finish painting the sun porch and will be sharing her white painted bricks with you soon. Mr. Macho is building a fire wood holder and indeed, his inner burly mountaineer has been unleashed — I think I even heard him […]

fresh lemon layer cake

Salutations!  I brought home some cute little lemons last week mostly for decoration for our kitchen table. I also wanted to make a lemony something or other out of them too, but I just wasn’t sure what. I whirled around some ideas in my head — lemon chicken or lemon pasta maybe — something on the healthy side.  But instead of something leaning towards the healthy side I went with a cake, a fresh lemon layer cake from scratch. The recipe is […]

please enjoy this garden bouquet while…

Salutation Cottage Fix Friends!  I’m in over my head here with cottage type makeovers and the sun porch so please enjoy this lovely garden bouquet while I’m knee deep in paint and brushes and this white swatch or that white swatch.  Please just imagine an eighties hit song of your choice arranged as elevator music while I get things together here.  I’ll be painting for today, or more realistically a couple days, or say it ain’t so – even longer. […]

peanut butter and banana smoothie

If you’re in the mood for something rich and creamy, like I happen to be almost all of the time, have I got a treat for you. Instead of eating the peanut butter right out of the jar, for a change I decided to make a nutritious and somewhat healthy snack loaded with banana and peanut butter goodness.  And “oh mama!” was I pleasantly surprised with the rich flavor. It could easily satisfy a sweet craving for something decadent and delicious. […]

Christmas in July

Yes, it’s only July and I already have Christmas on my mind — fresh greenery, sparkling twinkle lights, and the smell of sweet confections wafting from the kitchen.  I thought it would be fun to revisit last years Christmas and gear up for some Christmas in July plans. I’ve already started thinking about Christmas decorating for this year, I just can’t seem to help myself.  I’m getting butterflies now just thinking about it! Fresh greens in the dining room really […]

a kitchen table

I’ve always wanted a table in my kitchen, something understated and casual.  There’s something so old fashion about having a kitchen table, and it seems these days the kitchen table has slowly given way to the ever so popular kitchen island.  It’s so grandma chic and ever so cozy to share a meal at the kitchen table. I’m still moving things this way and that way after the piano landed in our living room, which is making the living room […]

Sunday morning with Paisley

Miss Paisley and I had ourselves a fun little Sunday morning, and Honey too.  There’s nothing like a nice walk with Paisley, followed by a “I can barely make it” jog to jump start Sunday morning!  And then honey was off to do yard work while I scrubbed the cottage doors and worked a bit in the garden. I’m just finishing up now and I’m beat.
