bathroom progress and painting our second floor radiator, yikes!

Salutations! Mr. Manly and I have had quite the weekend, but we are making major strides in the upstairs bathroom. It snowed all last night into the early morning so I made buttermilk pancakes to help us recover from several days of steady work. Nothing like hot fresh pancakes while the snow is falling outside! They make you feel all cozy inside.

Cottage Fix - bathroom progressOh where to begin, so much has been going on. Well we painted the walls, they’re a light gray color with blue undertones. I love the way the color turned out, but I was very hesitant. I painted on a couple of swatches to test it out and it looked white, but we went for it anyway. It’s just what I was hoping for.

Cottage Fix - bathroom progressI painted the window and door trim while Mr. Manly worked on painting the radiator. Now that was a job!

Cottage Fix - plastic tent to spraypaint a radiator insideThis was my crazy idea. That cute little radiator must weigh like 1000 pounds. It took three of us just to get it from the bathroom into our guest room. The thought of carrying it down a flight of stairs so it could be painted outdoors was worrying me. So this is what we came up with. It worked! We hung plastic all around the room and set up a fan for ventilation. Mr. Manly cleaned it with a wire brush and then painted it with flat white spray paint a little at a time.

Cottage Fix - painted radiatorI’m now dreading moving it back into the bathroom. I hand painted the pipes that the rad attaches to with the white trim paint.

Cottage Fix - bathroom progressWe had our tub and sink refinished by professionals, the sink is in the garage. I’m so pleased with how they turned out. Honey was a little disappointed. He was expecting them to look fresh from the factory, brand spankin’ new—they don’t. They look like old pieces that have been redone. I’m so very happy though so he says he is too.

Cottage Fix - refinished tub from the 1930sI also received the shower curtain I ordered from Pottery Barn, it’s gray linen with a ruffled bottom. A few more things have to happen before I can hang the shower curtain and put the icing on this cake. I am so ready for a slice…

stop! I hadn’t even gotten the chance to check out Pottery Barn yet, when I decided to turn a light gray linen tablecloth into a shower curtain today! Great minds think alike. Needless to say, I love your style and the way this bathroom is coming together 🙂

Coming along I see. Always so fun to watch the progress. I have the same tub as you have. I had mine redone with Bathfitters and it cost a fortune. They said this is one of the largest old tubs that they made. It is called the Queen Mary, just in case you wanted to know you have a luxury liner in your bathroom. Everything is looking fantastic, can hardly wait to see it all done. I bet you feel that way too.
Stay warm and safe. Heard the East coast got hit hard yesterday. We’ve been pretty lucky here. Just small amounts of snow at a time, but it is bitterly cold. Good hunkering down weather, if only I didn’t have to go out to work.

Yes, it’s the big one! To replace it for a new one we would’ve had to place a special order and it was going to be expensive. Thanks for sharing her name with us- what a fun thing to know. Lots of snow here, the kiddos are home again today. I’m ready for it to all melt! Thanks for visiting.

Your bathroom is already gorgeous and it’s not even done! I love all the finishes you’ve chosen. I’ve helped carry those heavy cast iron radiators before, so I know just how heavy they are. It’s looking good and I can’t wait to see the finished room!

Oh I love it so far! Your color choices are great. Your wall color reminds me of what is in my dining room and 1/2 bath. Love the subway tile and the floor tile you chose. The shower curtain is going to be beautiful in there. I would’ve liked to have done something “ruffly” in my kids bathroom that is grey and white, but since they’re boys, I couldn’t!

Thanks so much! And thank you for all of your thoughtful suggestions. I’ve put my painting projects on hold for now while we’re finishing up the bathroom.
