hot chocolate

enjoying hot chocolate by the fire

On a chilly winter day what is better than snuggling up by the fire with a cup of hot chocolate?  This recipe is rich, if not completely decadent, and whats even better is that it only takes three ingredients! It’s almost as easy as opening up the packet of hot coco powder mix, which I also enjoy.  We’ve been on a bit of a hot chocolate kick lately.  It’s not every year that winter in Virginia gets so bitterly cold […]

dining chairs, a cottage fix splurge

dining table with pinecone

Well, sometimes no matter how hard you look for comfortable, reasonably priced vintage chairs, you end up having to buy brand spankin new ones instead.  We have been needing new dining chairs since we moved into our cottage. orange buttermilk cake

orange buttermilk bundt cake

What’s up cottage fix friends?  We are eating orange buttermilk bundt cake around here.  It reminds me of my pound cake recipe and has just as much butter, eggs, and sugar, if not more.  The fresh orange makes this cake taste extra flavorful and unique.  I had some leftover buttermilk from the holidays and wanted to bake a buttermilk cake with it instead of just dumping it down the drain like I usually do – so wasteful.  I found this […]

cottage living room refresh

cottage living room refresh

Out with the old and in with the new.  I don’t know about all that, but I have managed to get all of the Christmas chachkis back into the attic.  Thank you kiddos — you are great helpers!  And I’ve been trying to refresh the living room and sun porch a bit.  Our house looks dreadfully bare without all of the glitz and greenery of Christmas.  In the living room I added a little tablecloth across the front of this […]
