berry smoothie for two

We’ve been on a bit of a health kick these days. What that means to me is more fruit, vegetables, fresh air, and exercise, although I’m not sure if that counts as an official full blown health kick. But hey, it’s one step closer to fitting into a pair of skinny jeans! A bikini beach babe is just around the corner! Grin! At first I decided to cut way back on sugar — I inherited a major sweet tooth from my dad! As soon as I told myself I was limiting sugar, it was all I could think about. Thoughts of chocolate covered candies and raspberry swirled cheesecake twirled around in my head. I couldn’t stand it. So instead of being on a health kick that takes things away, I am focusing more on adding good things in. Ahhh. Breathe.

This berry smoothie is loaded with “good for you” ingredients and whenever I drink it I feel like I’m doing something good for myself. It is perfectly refreshing for breakfast or a snack, and I also like to make it for my honey and me after a hike on the nearby trail. The frozen berries make it extra cold without adding ice and the yogurt adds a nice tang.

  • 8 oz frozen berries
  • 1/2 cup orange juice

At our local grocer you can find a frozen berry blend of strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries or mangoes and berries, but you can use whatever berry combination you like. If fresh berries are in season, you can also add some fresh ones along with the frozen.
