a new year

Cottage Fix blog - cottage living room with Morris chair

Happy New Year Cottage Fix friends! I’ve been changing some of our furniture pieces up here and there, along with a bit of a pillow shuffle. Sometimes I like to switch the pillows up from room to room to get a fresh look without spending a dime! I pulled our Morris chair back out of the attic when we were loading the Christmas ornaments back up. This arts and craft style chair has been in my family for generations and it’s one of Honey’s favorite chairs. So he didn’t complain too awfully much about the extra job.

Cottage Fix blog - simple coffee table styling for new year

I kept our coffee table styling simple and sweet with a large candle stacked on old books and a fresh green plant that I haven’t managed to kill just yet.

Cottage Fix blog - buttermilk pound cake from my Virginia Hospitality cookbook

It seems I’m overly obsessed with pound cake this winter which hasn’t been so good for the waistline. Ahem. Cake for breakfast, cake for snack, cake for dessert was not a part of my plan for the new year. But these things happen. I’ve been making this buttermilk pound cake from my Virginia Hospitality cookbook since the kiddos were just little guys – whipped by hand since before I was blessed with an electric mixer. I recently acquired my Aunt’s family recipe so I’m planning on trying that out next.

Cottage Fix blog - rattan chair piled high with shabby chic goodies

In our master bedroom I added this hand-me-down rattan chair and doused it with mushy shabby goodies. This is quite an upgrade for this little corner which used to house our dirty laundry basket. The walls in here are very dark gray so I try to keep the accents light and bright. I still am hoping to find a drippy crystal chandy for this space too.

Another shabby pillow…

Cottage Fix blog - floral shabby chic bedding

And floral crumpled shabby chic in our bedroom, as always.

Happy New Year!
