Summer hydrangea…

In June our backyard garden greets me with billowy blue blooms of hydrangea inviting me to slow down and enjoy these hazy days of summer. Their cool pastel color trick me into thinking I’m not as hot as I really am. I can remember riding around in the back of my dad’s blue chevy spotting these in the shady corners of our neighborhood gardens. With mounds of ivy spiraling beneath them, I thought they were the prettiest bushes I’d ever […]

Friday Flowers – blooming branches

Happy Friday Cottage Fix friends! And happy spring too! Just this past week the temps have been climbing a bit here near the coast of Virginia, and the early spring bloomers are making a beautiful scene all around town. In our garden, the magnolia, redbud, and cherry blossom are the first ornamental trees to bloom infusing a splash of color amidst the bare birches and fresh green grass. Although Farmer Brown is informing me we’re mostly weeds and moss this […]

garden hydrangeas

Salutations and happy summer! Our summer garden is in full swing and the hydrangeas are blooming a variety of colors this year. From deep purple to classic blue, they are one of my favorite flowers, especially to cut and bring inside. I picked a couple of new blooms in lime green to add to this bouquet too. Friday flowers ~ garden pickings

Happy Friday Cottage Fix Crew! How ’bout this scrappy collection of garden pickings I rustled together into a bouquet of sorts. Grin. It stormed like crazy here Wednesday with hail pelting down and buckets of rain pouring from our rooftop. I went around the house checking for water coming in to the sound of the clanking ice. No water! Phew. Apparently trees went down all over the neighborhood, so we were lucky here to just have flying yard debris. Our […]

Cottage Fix clay pots inside and out

Hola Cottage Fix crew! I always love clay pots filled with seasonal flowers out in our garden, pansies in the fall, and a different annual each spring. I love this look so much in fact, that I found some for inside too. I found this little group of three clay pots at a yard sale and I filled them with herbs to grow inside. They’ve been growing for a week now and they just keep getting bigger and bigger. I […]

cottage fix cherry blossoms

Happy Friday guys! The garden has been on my mind this past week with the arrival of spring and the early bloomers starting to show their stuff. So when we moved into this quirky vintage (old) cottage about five years ago now, we inherited gardens with flowering trees, ivy covered beds, and a variety of colorful perennials. I like to think we’re doing a fairly good job of keeping things going, along with adding in some of our favorite plants, […]

cottage fix Friday flowers

Hola Cottage Fix crew! I’m blogging in today under glorious sun filled skies and bright crisp air. The traditional yo yo temperatures we’re accustomed to here near the coast of Virginia are in full swing. Our weather people must stay on their toes that’s for sure. I even heard a mention of flurries in the forecast for later tonight—it was almost 80 degrees this past Wedneday. Oh yes, the floppin hoppers and toboggan worn all in the same week, a […]
