Good morning Cottage Fix friends! I’m blogging in today under sunny autumn skies, although the temperature dipped down into the low thirties last night. It’s unseasonably cool here for this time of year. Let’s just say I found myself sitting on one of the warm radiators this morning listening to them creak and crack back to life after a long summer’s break. I love radiator heat, it’s so cozy.We started our first fire of the season last night, complete with indoor marshmallow roasting and s’mores. It was a relaxing night, nothing like a roaring fire to lure the entire family to the same room at the same time. This is something that happens less and less now that two teenagers are living in the house. Watching the kiddos roast marshmallows together was the highlight of my night. My farmhouse bench is making good use in the living room as a coffee table. And with this cold snap we’re enjoying cup after cup of hot coffee with fall flavored pumpkin spice creamer. One thing I really like about using the bench here is its length. Our sofa is long and it’s nice to have a place to set a cup all the way from one end to the other. Especially since I’m not using end tables in here at the moment. And of course I’m already thinking ahead to Christmas and the tree. I promised the kiddos a tree that reaches the ceiling this year. My daughter was disappointed with last year’s small tree. Oh dear, she was so not impressed. Well, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that a tall tree will fit nicely in the living room. I’m actually kind of excited about the thought of it myself too. Anyways, with the slimmer coffee table bench in here, there’s a better chance of fitting in a larger than life Christmas tree. We shall see. Thanks for stopping by today!

I love the warm wood tone of the bench against your white sofa, Sally. And I’m enjoying my gas fireplace too, but unfortunately I can’t roast marshmallows in it. Sounds like fun! I think we’re all thinking about where the Christmas tree is going to fit right about now, especially if we’ve moved furniture around. Oh well, let’s enjoy fall while it lasts. Pretty photos!
Just beautiful Sally, as always! I love your bench/coffee table, it does fit perfectly along your sofa without being too imposing. Love all your big cozy pillows too:) Brrrrr…the 30’s! We were in the 60’s last night and that was a big deal for us. I did live in Canada for 6 years after we left England, just outside of Toronto, I do remember the cold mornings and standing over the radiators. So Cal would get quite chilly once in a while too and in one of the houses we lived in, I’d stand over the heater which blew up hot air.
You’re not the only one with Christmas on the brain LOL. I’m counting down the days til I get to put all the decorations up:) Have a wonderful rest of the week!
That bench is so functional with its long length, Sally. I love the idea of the family all around the fire making s’mores. And your ceiling-height Christmas tree is going to be great 🙂
I love that you’re using a bench for a coffee table. I love how it looks with your sofa and your pretty flowers!
I love your bench being used as a coffee table! That cup of coffee sitting there looks good too. I would love to be able to join you on your comfy sofa with a cup of coffee!
Love the bench Sally, I too am a bench person, yet have a hard time finding the right fit.
Your rustic farmhouse bench is perfect I front of the sofa, and I love that you could move it about finding new places in your home to add charm.
I have to say, now that you mentioned it I have not noticed that you don’t have side tables, I guess because your cottage room always charms the pieces you use In Your room!
The tall tree will be great, I love larger then life pieces in smaller spaces, is the tree going on the round area rug off to the side of your sofa? Is the tree going to be a live tree? If not one of those pencil trees ( tall slender trees) would look great, tall and yet saves you a bit more space.
I am up against the tree placement, looking for inspiration as to size and placement.
See you soon dear with more inspiration.
Xx

Thanks so much Dore! I would love to place the tree on my round entry rug, but I’m afraid you couldn’t get out or in through the front door. lol I always like a live tree. It’s like the difference between fake and fresh flowers to me, I love the texture and the fragrance it brings. However, a tall slender artificial tree would fit the best. Oh the tough decisions we face! lol

Your bench looks perfect in front of the sofa like that. I love the combo of rustic and pretty.
I love that you are thinking of Christmas because I am too! The Summer has been too long for me this year. It felt like it began in March and is still not coming to an end. It is supposed to be 84 today. I am ready for cold, rain and pine trees inside the house.
I do hope you find a nice big tree. Get your daughter what she wants because soon she will be leaving your nest and then you will miss her and all her disappointments too. I sure miss my kids. The baby is still here, he turns 20 this Saturday. I am holding on to him for as long as I possibly can. Your fireside roasting sounds so wonderful. xo
