Christmas 2019

Happy Holidays! I have been busy getting our Christmas up over the past couple of weeks. I always try to keep it simple, and I always try to reinvent the boxes of baubles and shimmer that I haul down from the attic. This year I splurged on some new cranberry velvet pillows for our living room sofa, which look right at home with the vintage baubles and twinkle lights. I’ve been displaying the golden garland of jingle bells for years, […]

gathering basket filled with blooms

Hi there Cottage Fix Crew! It has been one hot and humid summer here in Virginia and I’m so looking forward to fall! Although, our youngest little bird will be joining her older brother heading off to college this school year and I’m not so sure about how that will be. Dreadfully quiet I suppose, but they’re ready to soar! And waiting at home… their devoted, pining parents, unwillingly letting go of all helicopter parenting and lawnmower tendencies. I guess […]

a new year

Happy New Year Cottage Fix friends! I’ve been changing some of our furniture pieces up here and there, along with a bit of a pillow shuffle. Sometimes I like to switch the pillows up from room to room to get a fresh look without spending a dime! I pulled our Morris chair back out of the attic when we were loading the Christmas ornaments back up. This arts and craft style chair has been in my family for generations and […]

Happy Anniversary floral

Hola Cottage Fix friends! Honey and I celebrated our 23rd wedding anniversary this past weekend and I got these lovely flowers. We went on a bit of a nostalgic weekend, visiting the gazebo where we said our vows. There was a wedding happening so we sat out under a shade tree and watched for a while. Then the next day we headed to the ice cream shop we went to the morning after we were married. It poured rain so […]

summer snaps

Happy Friday! Hope everyone is having a great summer. It rained here for 34 days straight, give or take a day. Grin. The sunshine is back along with the heat and humidity, and our garden has grown wild. I’m excited to get out there tomorrow to help honey get things looking a bit better—fingers crossed I don’t melt! We went on a little beach vacation at the end of June, and July has flown on by. I can’t believe how […]

Cottage Fix Friday flowers from the garden

Happy Friday Cottage Fix friends! Our garden is growing wild this year, or as I like to say; the green machine is kickin’! The hydrangea are especially thriving now that the shade tree we cut back is starting to fill in and provide a bit of canopy from the afternoon sun. We’ve also been getting bucket loads of rain resulting in an abundance of lush green. Unfortunately, the weeds also seem to be enjoying all this rain. But they’re not […]

decorating mojo… raspberry floral and taupe

Hola Cottage Fix friends!! Long time no see. Well, it’s about time I got back to it I think. It was a long winter for me with a relentless bout of family illnesses (just one after another) and snow (not a fan!). And then the illnesses trickled right on into Spring with Paisley our sweet Schnauzer pup. I’d like to forecast smooth sailing from here on out—fingers crossed. The past couple of days have been all sunshine, wellness, and good […]

East Coast snow days

Living on the East Coast of Virginia we’re lucky to get maybe one good snow a year. And this year, we were hit with a “bomb cyclone” that traveled up the coast dumping buckets of white on us and also affecting many of our neighboring states. The ice and snow cocooned our town in an arctic blanket with the roads remaining under a sheath of ice for several days after the storm. But the drip, drip, drip has started and […]
