Hey guys! Look at what my honey did! I’m so in love, with the bathroom cabinet too! Wink. This is the little cabinet that we took down when we redid the kiddos bathroom a couple years back. I’m fairly certain it’s original to the house since the wall behind it had never been painted. The cabinet was painted yellow and partially covered in the same yellow bird wallpaper that covered most of the old bathroom, including the ceiling. I actually kind of liked the wall paper, but there was a lot of it! And the inside of this bad boy was so old and smelly. But now, honey did this!
He stripped the paint off and sanded down the entire piece inside and out. He painted the inside with several coats of fresh white semi gloss paint to make it easy to wipe clean. When it came to the outside we had planned on just painting it white. But as you know, I have a soft spot for vintage weathered chippy painted wood. So he left it as is after stripping off as much of the old yellow paint as he could. He applied two coats of satin polyurethane to finish it off. He also ordered a new latch from Amazon to tie in to the existing bronze finish of the bathroom chandelier.
The warm wood tone adds a nice contrast of color and texture to all of the sleek white and gray going on in here. It’s just the touch of rustic charm I was hoping for.
Thanks for visiting!
xoxo Sally
PS here’s a before picture…
Love it! I have a Wardway book that shows how our 1921 bathroom looked when the house was built, and a cabinet like yours was standard in most bathrooms. The before photo is quite a different look than how your bathroom looks now. I love the wood tone against your gray and white finishes and pretty chandelier, Sally!
I didn’t know that about them being standard feature in old bathrooms! Very cool!
It looks amazing Sally! Your honey did a fantastic job!!! Love that you have a little chandy in your bathroom:)
Thanks Victoria! I love that little chandy too, it’s from Lowes. I still would like to find something similar for our bedroom. xo
I love charming little cabinets and yours is no exception! It looks perfect in your bathroom.

Wow, I loved the new look of the cabinet already, but when I saw the “before” photo of the bathroom, I was amazed! This is a fabulous transformation – you and your honey did a great job!
